Pcgamer reports Facepunch Studios chief operating officer Alistair McFarlane has offered to buy Amazon's MMO New World for $25 million as the game is scheduled to close on January 31, 2027.

The seriousness of the offer is uncertain: the article says it might have begun as a joke but could develop into something real. Other industry figures responded on social media—Simon Collins-Laflamme wrote, "If you need tips about buying cancelled games, lmk," streamer Gothalion expressed enthusiasm, and Errn said, "We offered to buy it to save it." The report also noted Amazon appears to be stepping back from game development and described $25 million as "not big money on the Amazon scale."

McFarlane said, "We're opening a publishing arm of the business quite soon and we're always looking for new opportunities and we are open to all avenues," adding, "Games shouldn't die," and citing long-lived titles as examples. It remains unclear whether the offer will progress into a formal sale.
