Fallout 76’s $30 Mojave Bundle puts NCR Ranger Power Armor behind a paywall
Bethesda released the Mojave Bundle for Fallout 76 to coincide with the release of Fallout season 2’s penultimate episode, offering a $30 DLC that includes the NCR Ranger Power Armor seen on Maximus in the previous episode — a price the article notes is about half what the full game cost at launch in 2018.
The pack also includes nametags and a couple of camp items, but the standout is the Power Armor skin. The design cannot be bought through the in-game Atomic Shop, so players who have been saving Atoms can’t use them and must pay the $30 one-off fee. The move has provoked backlash from long-time players.
Kotaku says the release has “thoroughly upsetting the franchise’s online multiplayer fanbase,” and a post on the Fallout 76 subreddit criticized Bethesda as “aggressively cash-grabby” since Microsoft’s acquisition. A tweet quoted in the piece said, “This is CRAZY. They love making you pay a stupid amount of money for NCR stuff.” PC Gamer is cited noting that every mainline Fallout title, through Fallout 4 and including Fallout 76, can currently be bought for less than the Mojave Bundle’s price.
Kotaku also points out that all of Fallout 76’s seasonal updates are free, even as the game has been on a week-long free trial and is currently on sale for $8.
