Fallout: London lead warns Creation Engine needs overhaul for Fallout 5
Gamesradar reports Fallout: London project lead Dean Carter said he is "really worried" Bethesda will keep using its proprietary Creation Engine for Fallout 5 and that the engine "needs to be overhauled somewhat."
Carter, speaking to Esports.Net, acknowledged there are positives to Bethesda's long-running technology but said it has begun to show its age. The article notes Bethesda's engine lineage: NetImmerse (renamed Gamebryo in 2003) was used for Elder Scrolls 4 and Fallout 3, the Creation Engine debuted with Elder Scrolls 5 and powered Fallout 4, and Starfield uses an updated Creation Engine 2.
He singled out "Load screens and optimization, without a doubt," saying Fallout: London drew public complaints about optimization because it was too late in development to change and the team avoided load screens. It is not known whether Bethesda will overhaul or abandon the Creation Engine for a future Fallout 5, but Carter said removing load screens and improving optimization should be priorities if the engine is upgraded.
