Fan Spent Five Years Hunting Shiny Costumes in Pokémon Battle Revolution — Kotaku

Shiny hunters are a devoted bunch, and one player took that devotion to an extreme in Pokémon Battle Revolution, a 20-year-old Wii battle simulator. Unlike the mainline RPGs, the game has no wild encounters; instead, trainers can wear themed outfits based on monsters such as Groudon, Kyogre, Roserade and Lucario, and those outfits can appear in the Pokémon’s Shiny colors.

Players obtain the costumes by defeating trainers in the game’s single-player mode, but those trainers turn up during a long boss-rush of high-level battles and the Shiny outfit chance is tiny—roughly 1 in 8,192. That means reloading and fighting through the sequence over and over just to see one alternate-colored costume.

User Noa_Kyogre on X spent about five years chasing these Shiny costumes and ultimately collected the full set of six not once but twice, in both the Japanese and international versions of the game, claiming to be the first person to do so. They say the feat earned bragging rights but was not something they’ll attempt again.
