Fans keep watch outside Milan hotel to see K-pop star Sunghoon
Around sunrise each morning in Milan, a pack of hopefuls has lined up outside a hotel with a single objective: to catch a glimpse of Sunghoon, the K-pop singer visiting for the Olympic Games. The rotating cast of fans has gathered there practically all day, every day since he arrived as an honorary Olympic torch bearer and an ambassador for the South Korean team.
The commitment has been intense. The crowd forms neat parallel lines by the revolving doors, some staying until after midnight. For these fans, simply seeing him felt roughly like winning a bronze medal, an autograph like silver and a selfie as rare as gold. Beatrice Tanzini, 34, received an autograph one afternoon but still spent another six hours outside the hotel: "It's cold these days, raining some days, so it was hard," she said.
