Fans see Darth Talon hints in Dave Filoni’s Maul — Shadow Lord trailer

Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, an animated series created by Dave Filoni, will stream on Disney Plus on April 6, and fans are already spotting possible ties to the Extended Universe. A teaser trailer shows a pink Twi’lek named Devon Izara alongside Maul, prompting speculation she could become Darth Talon.

The trailer depicts Devon fighting off stormtroopers with a lightsaber, complaining about being on the run, and appearing bathed in red light while Maul’s shadow crosses her face. The clip includes Maul saying, “I offer you an opportunity,” which viewers have read as an apprenticeship tease.

Sam Witwer will reprise the voice of Maul in the series. Darth Talon originated in the 2006 Star Wars: Legacy comics as a Twi’lek Sith apprentice of Darth Ruyn who later served Darth Krayt, and she eventually crossed paths with Darth Maul. George Lucas once planned a Talon–Maul pairing for a scrapped game and even considered them central to his original sequel-trilogy concept before selling Star Wars to Disney in 2012.

Filoni was hand-picked by Lucas and is now taking over Lucasfilm, and some fans wonder whether elements of Lucas’ unused ideas could be resurfacing. The show and a March comic called Star Wars: Shadow of Maul — which is billed as a prequel to the series — are feeding talk that Devon could be reshaped into a canonical Sith figure.
