HBO has announced a Baldur’s Gate television series set after Baldur’s Gate 3 that will canonize the game’s events, and Larian Studios will not be involved. Because Baldur’s Gate is a Dungeons & Dragons property owned by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, the show is a collaboration between HBO and Hasbro, leaving Larian essentially excised from the production.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke posted on X that Craig Mazin has reached out to talk with the studio and that he’s “eager to find out” which Baldur’s Gate 3 endings and choices HBO picks. Vincke added, “We worked incredibly hard on making Baldur’s Gate 3 worthy of its legacy,” and noted the game’s endings were created “so they could serve as narrative soil for new adventures.” Michael Douse, Larian’s publishing director, urged that the BG3 writers receive credit and that the characters be treated with respect, writing, “I genuinely don’t think anyone can trump our writers.” He praised their camaraderie and long hours of work and said he hopes television allows for the same thoroughness.
