Fatal Fury season 2 trailer criticised for alleged AI-generated footage
Kotaku reports that SNK’s trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ upcoming second season, released Thursday, has been criticised for incorporating apparent AI-generated clips; the season is set to launch on January 22.
The trailer promises monthly character drops over a six-month period and lists returning fighters such as Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary and Wolfgang Krauser. Fans and community moderators have complained that several shots look AI-generated — citing skyscrapers with inconsistent windows, character introduction clips that “look…very off,” and many clips overlaid with large walls of text and graffiti-like flourishes. A moderator wrote in a parting message to the official Discord server: “I’m stepping down after this trailer, I’m thankful for what you guys did for us and all but this is too much for me to deal with, this is against what I stand for.”
The studio did not immediately respond to a request for comment. SNK was purchased by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in 2022, a change that has drawn accusations of sportswashing; the fund also owns Al-Nassr FC and contributed to Cristiano Ronaldo later being added to CotW as a playable character. The game, which won Best Fighting Game at this year’s Game Awards, now faces renewed scrutiny over its trailer as the second-season launch approaches, and the fund is reportedly on track to own Electronic Arts by the end of the summer.
