Figma CEO says he favors hiring younger, AI-native workers
Businessinsider reports Figma CEO Dylan Field said he has a "bias" toward hiring junior workers because younger professionals are often more "AI native."
Speaking on the "In Good Company" podcast produced by Norges Bank Investment Management, Field said AI skills give young people a hiring advantage and called the effect of AI on hiring a "critical" debate in the software industry. He asked whether AI means companies should hire senior, middle-level, or junior staff and added, "I've heard that last one a bunch of times, and it hasn't come true yet. All the people have said that. They continue to hire." Field said Figma has hired a mix of ages but that an understanding of and passion for AI is essential, noting the company is "pushing full steam ahead into the AI era."
Field's comments come as young professionals face a stagnant job market: the Bureau of Labor Statistics in December published its final 2025 jobs report showing the job market has remained stagnant, economists said. The rise of AI has added to the uncertainty, with some companies betting AI can perform entry-level tasks and pausing hiring; Field has said he does not share the view that AI will take human jobs, telling "Lenny's Podcast" in October 2025 that he doesn't think AI will take human jobs at all.
