Firefox ends support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1
Firefox users running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 should update their operating system: Firefox version 115 is the last release that will be supported on those platforms.
Mozilla began winding down support in January 2023 but provided an Extended Support Release (ESR) for critical security fixes. That ESR will receive updates only until the end of February.
Firefox will continue to support Windows 10 for the foreseeable future. Mozilla recommends upgrading to Windows 10 or Windows 11, while noting that Windows 11 has hardware requirements some machines may not meet and that some users prefer older versions of Windows.
If current hardware cannot handle Windows 10 or higher, switching to a Linux-based operating system is an alternative; the vast majority of Linux distributions include Firefox as the default browser.
