This month’s picks include a sequel to the Paw Patrol franchise and a Disneynature documentary that follows a polar bear and her cub as they cope with melting ice. In Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie (2023), Skye, the cockapoo who handles aviation, takes center stage. The villain, Victoria Vance (Taraji P.

Henson), uses a “meteor magnet” to cause a meteor to crash into Adventure City; crystals from the meteor give the Paw Patrol superpowers, which prove useful when Humdinger teams up with Vance. Kim Kardashian returns briefly as Delores, and there are brief voice roles from Kristen Bell, James Marsden and Lil Rel Howery.

Cal Brunker directed and co-wrote the script with Bob Barlen and Shane Morris. The 2022 Disneynature documentary features Catherine Keener narrating, presenting the story from the bear’s point of view as she tries to find food and survive with her cub amid melting ice. Multiple cinematographers are credited for striking Arctic and aerial images.

The film contains scenes—such as a polar bear dragging a seal underwater or eating a beached whale—that may upset younger children, and it was directed by Alastair Fothergill and Jeff Wilson with a script by David Fowler.
