Darren Fletcher has hinted he will not be given the Manchester United job for the remainder of the season after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup, Goal reports. Fletcher has failed to win either of his games since being named interim boss following Ruben Amorim's sacking, overseeing a 2-2 draw at Burnley before the defeat by Brighton.

The loss made him the first United manager since David Moyes in 2014 to see the club eliminated in the FA Cup third round and is said to harm his chances of remaining in charge, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick also reportedly vying for the role. United are now focused solely on the Premier League after an earlier Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town, a run that leaves the club due to play their fewest matches in a season since 1914-15.

Fletcher said he had not spoken to chief executive Omar Berrada or director of football Jason Wilcox about staying in the post and in an interview with TNT Sports he implied a new boss would be appointed, saying: "Someone is going to come in and lead them, they need to make sure they have a lot to play for this season." He added that the players were "fragile" and must rebuild confidence, warning that results "might not be pretty at times." United have six days before their next game, at home to Manchester City next Saturday, and Fletcher said he had not been told whether he would remain in charge for that fixture.
