Ford to add AI assistants to Ford and Lincoln apps, in cars from 2027
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Ford announced plans to introduce AI assistants into the Ford and Lincoln in‑car experience, first via smartphone apps and later built into vehicles.
Ford said the assistants are intended to personalize cars for individual drivers even though the company has long been rooted in mass production. Doug Field, Ford’s chief EV, design, and digital officer, wrote in a blog post shared with Ars that the aim is “a seamless layer of intelligence that travels with you between your phone and your vehicle,” and not “generic intelligence.” Field suggested practical uses such as taking a photo of an item and asking the AI whether it will fit in a truck bed.
Ford expects the AI assistant to arrive in the Ford and Lincoln smartphone apps starting early this year. The company said the assistant will become a native in‑vehicle experience from 2027 as new or refreshed models are able to include it, possibly starting with the low‑cost electric truck the automaker has said is due next year and in gas models like the Expedition and Navigator.
