Former Assassin’s Creed Head Sues Ubisoft for C$1.3 Million Over Alleged Forced Exit
Kotaku reports that Marc-Alexis Côté, the former head of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and a 20-year Ubisoft veteran, has filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of Quebec alleging he was constructively dismissed after being demoted following the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in 2025.
Radio-Canada reports the suit seeks C$1.3 million (roughly US$935,000) and describes a meeting in the summer of 2025 when it apparently became clear Côté would no longer lead Assassin’s Creed. The filing says Ubisoft created a Vantage Studios subsidiary backed by $1.25 billion from Tencent to house major franchises and planned a France-based Head of Franchise role that would oversee top IP; prior to that change Côté reported directly to Yves Guillemot.
The complaint says Côté was offered a franchise production head role or an ambiguous position leading a “Creative House” for a lesser franchise, and that when he declined and requested severance in October Ubisoft internally and publicly announced his "voluntary" departure the next day.
