Former Skyrim lead says TES6 setting was discussed during Fallout 4 era
Kurt Kuhlmann, a former Skyrim lead and longtime Elder Scrolls "loremaster," told PC Gamer that developers had a "sort of consensus" on where The Elder Scrolls 6 might be set as far back as the Fallout 4 development period. Bethesda has not confirmed the game's setting. "From when we were talking about it way back in the Fallout 4 timeframe," Kuhlmann told PC Gamer, "there was a sort of consensus amongst a few people that were talking about it." He also cautioned the place they were considering might not be where the game ultimately unfolds, and said he has not "been involved in that level of the story side of things since Skyrim." The piece notes broader timing: more than 14 years have passed since Skyrim's launch, and seven years have gone by since The Elder Scrolls 6 debuted with a short teaser at E3 2018.
GamesRadar says very little about the upcoming RPG has surfaced in that time. Community speculation remains active, with popular theories including Hammerfell and High Rock. The GamesRadar author also said they personally "yearn for something as weird as Morrowind," and pointed out that passing mentions — such as a small post-Oblivion Remastered note from Todd Howard or an NPC auction that raised $85,000 — aren’t substantive updates.
What happens next is still unclear: Kuhlmann’s remarks stop short of confirmation, and Bethesda has yet to announce a setting or release details.
