Friends set up a $500,000 GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek’s family after the actor died Wednesday following a battle with colorectal cancer that began in August 2023. The fundraiser notes that the costs of his medical care "left [his] family out of funds," despite a reported net worth of $3 million.

The page says his wife, Kimberly, and their six children — Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 8, Gwendolyn, 6, and Jeremiah, 3 — are "facing an uncertain future." It adds donations will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills and support the children’s education.

Within an hour of its creation the GoFundMe had raised more than $42,000. Kimberly, listed as the organizer, shared the link on her Instagram Stories and wrote, "My friends created this link to support me and our children during this time.
