The friendslop race to make the next Peak
End-of-year retrospectives called 2025 the year of the friendslop game, but recent announcements suggest the era of cheap, comedic, and crude multiplayer titles is only getting started. Indie developers are rushing to cash in, and some projects are blowing up before they're officially announced — We Are So Cooked, a co-op about removing the body of someone you accidentally murdered, has footage viewed by millions despite having no release date, trailer, or website.
The footage shows rough edges—stiff animations and underbaked mechanics—but viewers are focused on the kernel of a strong idea: coordinating to move a body with friends looks like a good time. There's an implicit assumption that, much like its $7.99 progenitor Peak, a game like WASC will be cheap to buy.
Other recent hits follow a similar pattern.
