Movieweb reports that Frieren: Beyond Journey's End returned for a second season on Crunchyroll on Jan. 16 and has already earned a 9.31 rating on MyAnimeList.

The Madhouse adaptation of Tsukasa Abe's manga debuted in 2023 and became an international sensation, once topping MyAnimeList's all-time rankings and beating Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; Season 1 previously held a 9.28 score. Season 2 is also ranked fourth on Crunchyroll's weekly streaming chart, where Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 holds the top spot.

The series follows Frieren, an elf mage who defeated the Demon King alongside the hero Himmel and later grapples with the mortality of her human companions as she goes on a journey with a young protégé, Fern; the official synopsis notes Frieren's return fifty years later, witnessing Himmel's death and setting out to better understand people. It should be noted that only one episode of Season 2 has been released so far, and new episodes stream weekly on Crunchyroll.
