Gabriel Basso, of ‘The Night Agent,’ Gets Back to Nature
Gabriel Basso, the star of The Night Agent, spent an afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History wandering among models and dioramas while veering from conversations about ancient geopolymers to sonar-jamming moths and the etymology of amethyst. The show, one of Netflix’s most watched, returns on Thursday for its third season; Basso plays Peter Sutherland, a maverick F.B.I.
agent whose usual onscreen affect ranges from narrowed eyes and a clenched jaw to the look of someone shaking off a sucker punch. Confronted with the Titanosaur, he grinned and said, "Sick," then mused about its skeletal structure. Raised in Missouri, Basso said he was most comfortable in nature, collecting snakes and wandering the woods.
His sisters moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and he eventually found an agent during a visit, appearing as a teen in shows like The Big C and films like Super 8; "It was sort of a tough environment to figure out who you are as a person," he said.
