The Galadriel Line From The Fellowship That Still Resonates
Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy brings J.R.R. Tolkien's world to the screen, and its first film, The Fellowship of the Ring, includes a moment many viewers find unforgettable. In Lothlórien, during the Mirror of Galadriel sequence, Frodo offers Galadriel the Ring after seeing a dark future, and she replies, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." That line does not appear in Tolkien's novel.
The film repurposes nearby material: much of Galadriel's preceding dialogue in the movie is taken from Elrond's words in the Council of Elrond chapter, which emphasize Frodo's unique role as Ring-bearer. Elrond's lines — 'This quest may be attempted by the weak with as much hope as the strong' and 'small hands do them because they must' — clearly inform the film's version of Galadriel's encouragement.
Her remark acts as a catalyst for Frodo's journey and endures as a concise reminder that even modest figures can alter the course of events.
