Gene Roddenberry and Lucille Ball Get First Star Trek Action Figures
To mark Star Trek's 60th anniversary, Nacelle is releasing 1/10-scale action figures of two behind-the-scenes pioneers, Gene Roddenberry and Lucille Ball, for the first time as a two-pack in its Star Trek line. Roddenberry conceived the series and its utopian view of the future, later helping take the franchise to the big screen and into The Next Generation; he died in 1991 at age 70.
Ball ran Desilu Studios and commissioned the original pilot, "The Cage," starring Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock. NBC deemed it "too cerebral," so Ball backed a second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before," in which Hunter declined and William Shatner stepped in as Captain James Kirk; NBC approved that version and the show went into production.
Desilu was later absorbed into Paramount, and Ball died in 1989 at 77. Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry said, "We’re thrilled to be partnering with The Nacelle Company to honor my father and Star Trek's 60th.
