Gerard Butler’s $636 Million Fantasy Hit Is Coming to Netflix
Netflix will add the live-action How to Train Your Dragon to its streaming library on February 10. The 2025 film grossed over $600 million globally to become Gerard Butler’s highest-grossing release and enjoyed a strong PVOD run before streaming on Peacock. It is unclear whether the movie will leave Peacock when it arrives on Netflix, though it is expected to become one of Netflix’s biggest sleeper hits in the coming weeks.
Butler’s year has been mixed: he reprised his role as John Garrity in Greenland 2: Migration, which is shaping up to be one of his biggest financial misfires, coming right after his summer success. Butler reprises his animated role as Stoick in the live-action film, which also stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Nick Frost as Gobber, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, and Gabriel Howell as Snotlout.
A sequel is now in production, director Dean DeBlois has confirmed. Cate Blanchett will return as Valka, and Phil Dunster replaces Kit Harington as Eret.
