Giannis Antetokounmpo likely to miss weeks with right calf injury, MRI scheduled
Cbssports reports that after Friday’s loss in Milwaukee Giannis Antetokounmpo said he will get an MRI on his right calf and expects doctors to tell him he "probably popped something in my calf, or my soleus," adding he was likely to follow a 4–6 week protocol and aim to return at the end of February or early March.
The Bucks have not announced an official timeline; Antetokounmpo missed more than three weeks earlier this season with a calf strain on the same leg and said this injury felt the same. At 18-26 the Bucks sit 11th in the Eastern Conference, are 2½ games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the final Play-In spot, and are 3-11 this season without Antetokounmpo. Coach Doc Rivers said the recurring calf issue is "concerning."
The report says the injury could sideline Antetokounmpo through the Feb. 5 trade deadline and the All-Star Weekend (Feb. 13-15), likely ending his award-year eligibility because of the 65-game threshold. The injury also complicates Milwaukee’s deadline plans and, the article suggests, increases the chance the team shifts focus to the future — including the possibility of a high draft pick — rather than a short-term push this season.
