Gina Carano to Fight Ronda Rousey in Netflix-Streamed Bout
Gina Carano will return to the ring for the first time in 17 years when she faces former UFC standout Ronda Rousey in an MMA featherweight (145 lb) bout that Netflix will stream on Saturday, May 18 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The event is a partnership with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), a boxing promotion company owned by Jake Paul.
Rousey marked the announcement by calling it "the biggest super fight in women's combat sport history" and said the fight and partnerships had been long in the works. Carano first rose to public attention during a three-year run as a mixed martial arts fighter and remains under contract with the UFC.
She later transitioned into acting, accumulating 17 credits between 2008 and 2022, including roles in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Deadpool (2016), and played Cara Dune on The Mandalorian in seven episodes across its first two seasons. Disney fired Carano following social media posts that compared contemporary political discourse and the COVID-19 pandemic to the Holocaust.
