Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner criticised the club’s board after the sale of captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City was revealed on the eve of their 2-1 defeat by Sunderland, Goal said. Glasner used his post-match interview to express his anger at the timing and reiterated that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

The club has agreed to sell Guehi to Manchester City for an initial £20 million (€23m and $26.7m), and Glasner said the move compounded turmoil after he announced on Friday he would depart at the end of the season, a decision he made in October to seek a "new challenge." He warned the departures have left the squad depleted, saying "I feel we are being abandoned completely... we have 12, 13 players from the squad available and we feel no support" and criticising the sale of the captain "one day before playing a Premier League game."

Further player movement is anticipated: striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is said to be open to a new challenge with Juventus holding talks, and Eberechi Eze was already sold to Arsenal last summer, leaving a significant rebuilding job for the next manager. Glasner insisted he will remain with the group until the end of the season, and there is no guarantee he will be in the dugout for the upcoming London derby with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
