Prime Video has announced reports that Icelandic actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson has been cast as Thor in its God of War series, based on the 2018 video game in which Kratos takes on the Norse pantheon, MovieWeb reports.

Ólafsson is best known for playing Mr. Drummond on Apple TV's Severance. His other television credits include NOS4A2, Emerald City and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and his film work listed by the outlet includes The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Last Witch Hunter and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Ólafsson joins an already announced cast that includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos (the actor previously portrayed Thor in God of War Ragnarök), Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif and Max Parker as Heimdall.

The series is being developed by Ronald D. Moore, with Frederick E. O. Toye set to direct the first two episodes. MovieWeb notes the show has no set release date window but will stream on Prime Video.

MovieWeb also frames God of War as part of Prime Video's broader slate of video game adaptations alongside Fallout and an upcoming Tomb Raider reboot; it remains unclear when the God of War series will premiere and how its depiction of Thor will differ from other on-screen versions.
