GOG used AI-generated sale banner, in-house artist confirms
Digital PC storefront GOG used AI-generated artwork to advertise an ongoing 2026 sale, and a graphic artist who works at the company confirmed the image was created with AI on January 26, Kotaku reports.
The image was first noticed by someone on Reddit and reported to GamingOnLinux; observers pointed to a SNES-like console in the banner that appears to be melting as a major giveaway the art was AI-generated.
KosmicznaPluskwa, a GOG forums user who appears to be a graphic artist at the company, posted a lengthy response on January 26 saying, “OK, so to clear the air – current sale banner is fully AI. Not my work.” The user clarified they aren’t a spokesperson and said their team is much smaller now and the role’s requirements have changed.
The artist wrote that seeing AI art everywhere makes them sad: “It’s just miserable to think about how surrounded and how ever-present it all is now,” and urged others to speak up, writing, “And continue speaking up – in the face of future we don’t like to see, complacency is not the way.”
Kotaku contacted GOG about the artwork but did not hear back before publication, and the company had not publicly commented in the article, so whether GOG will address or change its use of AI remains unclear.
