At a Los Angeles screening and Q&A for Song Sung Blue on Jan. 13, Goldie Hawn moderated the conversation and told her daughter Kate Hudson, 'You're a dramatic actress' — adding, 'Yeah, but you've got funny,' while Hudson agreed she 'got some funny.'

Hawn told the crowd, 'What is great about comedy is sending up what's really tragic,' and Hudson said she has 'an affinity towards comedic actors,' calling them some of the greatest dramatic actors who don't always get opportunities to do dramatic work.

Song Sung Blue, written and directed by Craig Brewer, stars Hudson and Hugh Jackman as Mike and Claire Sardina, a real-life married couple whose Neil Diamond cover band Lightning & Thunder were local Milwaukee heroes throughout the 1990s.

Hawn admitted she 'cried so hard in this movie, and I thought it was going to be a comedy!' and said she and longtime partner Kurt Russell 'held onto each other and cried' while watching it. Hawn also relayed something her own late mother would tell her: 'Honey? No one will ever forget you.' Hudson replied, 'Awe. I'm so happy my mom came to do this! We had fun! I love you, Mommy.'

The pair called Song Sung Blue 'a family celebration' around Hudson's acclaimed performance. Hawn said, 'We're so deeply, deeply proud. Not a word I use very often. But I'm in awe of Kate, and I think we all are,' while the film's exact tone — comedy, drama or love story — remained a question Hawn raised during the Q&A.
