Google expands Search tools to remove sensitive personal data — TechCrunch

As part of Safer Internet Day, Google announced updates to its "Results about you" tool so users can request removal of Search results that include government ID numbers such as a driver’s license, passport or Social Security number, in addition to phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses.

The tool is available in the Google app by tapping your account photo and selecting "Results about you." First-time users click "Get started," add the contact information they want monitored and are then prompted to add government ID numbers; existing users can add and choose which IDs to monitor.

Once details are confirmed, Google will monitor Search results and notify users if it finds matching information. Google said the change is rolling out in the U.S. over the coming days, with plans to expand to additional regions. The company noted removing information from Search does not remove it from the web entirely but can help keep personal data more private.
