Grace Van Patten and Jackson White describe their grounded off-screen romance

People reports that three years into their romance, Tell Me Lies costar Grace Van Patten told the outlet in August 2025 that in real life she and Jackson White are "way less exciting" than the toxic college couple Lucy and Stephen they play on the Hulu series.

The two met in 2022 during a Zoom chemistry read and on set for season 1, and they seemingly confirmed their relationship when they stepped out holding hands in November 2022. White admitted he had "such a crush" on Van Patten during an October 2022 podcast appearance, and his mother, Katey Sagal, said in January 2024 that she approved and that the pair "have been for two years." Van Patten has said their off-screen relationship feels grounded, makes her feel safe and allows her to be vulnerable on camera; she also said they had their first fight while filming and called those scenes "our couple’s therapy."

Tell Me Lies is returning for a third season, and the two have continued working together on the show. White said the break between seasons made returning to his manipulative character "super weird," but that they "knew exactly how to do it," and the couple's relationship is described as still going strong.
