David Corenswet’s first outing as the Last Son of Krypton offered the refreshing, plucky take fans wanted, but All-Star Superman author Grant Morrison had reservations. In an interview with Half the Picture, Morrison called it "the best Superman movie yet" while adding that it wasn't completely invulnerable.

He praised how "it became the closest to capturing what Superman feels like," but objected to choices James Gunn made to make the character more relatable. "He had him getting beaten up an awful lot. I want to see him stop getting beaten up and fight back," Morrison said.

Morrison also disliked Clark learning about his heritage in a way that echoed Invincible, with Superman sent to dominate rather than save his new home planet. "I didn't like it because I prefer it when Krypton's this lost utopia," he explained, adding that he prefers "the idea that there was something amazing, and nature just wiped it out.
