Grounded 2 brittle quartzite locations — craft brittle whetstone & smithing station

Finding brittle quartzite is essential in Grounded 2 once you’ve secured the first optical disk: the mineral is required to craft brittle whetstones for weapon upgrades and to build the smithing station. Brittle quartzite appears as unassuming reddish-brown lumps with sharper lines and defined edges, and the resource spawns in a handful of specific, sometimes hidden spots.

The in-game resource finder won’t track mineral deposits, so you’ll need map markers or visual guides to locate them. Polygon lists the brittle quartzite locations it has found so far: next to the milk molar in the cave used for the optical disk story progress; in the red ant hatchery anthill near the snackbar (turn right in the first lit hall and it’s behind roots blocking a raw science blob); on top of the snackbar platform between planks and the wall; near the roots of the oak tree north of the Shlapz Portable Music Player point of interest; under a book just south-southeast of that music player; near a rock after exiting the hedge southwest of the snackbar; southeast of the picnic table and north of the pink bloom where the praying mantis nymph lives; in a cave under the backpack where the Masked Stranger hides spicy candies; and throughout the western side of the War-Torn Anthill en route to the Veggie Garden.

For the anthill run, Polygon recommends entering on your red ant soldier buggy and using “recruit” on worker ants at least once to calm the interior creatures.
