Gruffalo Granny to be released on 10 September
The Gruffalo family is set to grow with a third book, Gruffalo Granny, due on 10 September. The new story follows 2004’s The Gruffalo’s Child and 1999’s original The Gruffalo, and opens with the line: “The Gruffalo said to his daughter one day, your Gruffalo Granny is coming to stay.” Axel Scheffler provides the illustrations, and familiar characters including Fox, Snake, Owl and Mouse return.
Fans will be able to see Scheffler’s never-seen-before illustration projected in central London and Glasgow on Friday evening. Julia Donaldson said writing a sequel was always a challenge, noting five years elapsed between the first two books and now more than 20 between the second and this third.
She added that the National Literacy Trust’s Early Words Matter programme spurred her to take the idea out of the cupboard, and she was delighted when Axel produced what she called brilliant illustrations.
