Haji Wright hat-trick sends Coventry top of Championship
USMNT star Haji Wright hit a stunning hat-trick for Coventry against fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough, firing Frank Lampard’s side back to the top of the Championship table. The Sky Blues have thrown away a commanding lead at the summit of the English second tier, but remain on course to reach the Premier League.
Wright, who has taken his goal tally for the season to 13, was the undoubted star. He hit the post early before sweeping in the opener after 21 minutes. His second followed a thumping Carl Rushworth clearance down the middle; Wright used strength to hold off his marker and drill into the bottom corner.
He completed his treble from the penalty spot in the 71st minute. Lampard said of Wright’s talismanic performance: “Haji keeps his head down, he's been working hard and we know what Haji can be like when he's in that form. Really pleased for him and he has to take that forward.
