Gamesradar reports that Halo: Campaign Evolved is being built in Unreal Engine 5 as a "faithful and modernized remake" of Combat Evolved, positioned to relaunch the franchise and reach platforms the series has not supported before.

Creative director Max Szlagor says Halo Studios has rebuilt "every mission, every encounter, and every cinematic" from scratch while aiming to stay true to the original's tone, atmosphere, feel, and emotional impact. A preview of the Silent Cartographer section highlighted preserved movement and momentum — the floaty jumps, thunderous melee, MA5B assault rifles and Warthog rides — while executive producer Damon Conn noted the team has implemented modern changes such as the ability to pick up and use the energy sword, Fuel Rod cannon and Sentinel Beam, and to pilot the Wraith tank.

Szlagor confirms "We are also designing three brand new story missions focused on Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson," which the studio says take place before the events of Combat Evolved and before Reach. Conn also confirms four-player online co-op with full crossplay, and the piece says Campaign Evolved marks the series debut on PlayStation and is due to release later this year; the studio says it hopes the remake will "grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community."
