MANGMI’s Pocket Max is a new modular 7-inch Android handheld that has landed with an early-bird price of $199.99. The company pitches it as “designed for streaming,” but I suspect I’ll spend a lot of time using it to revisit my PS2 collection when I’m not squinting at CRTs.

The Pocket Max packs a 7-inch AMOLED touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 and a 144Hz refresh rate, powered by a Snapdragon 865 with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS storage plus support for up to 512GB microSD. Connectivity includes USB-C, Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi 7, while audio is handled via a 3.5mm jack, stereo speakers and Bluetooth; the unit weighs about 450g.

Its magnetic modules for face buttons and the d-pad are a notable feature. My review unit included microswitched replacements that give a clickier feel than the stock membranes, but the modules are quite firmly seated and I had to use a plastic pry tool to remove them — a small removal tool in the box would have helped.
