Happy's Place creator on why Bobbie (Reba) and Emmett split
Season 2 of NBC's Happy's Place dropped a heartbreaker as Bobbie (Reba McEntire) and Emmett (Rex Linn) called it quits in the episode "Silence Was Golden." The sitcom airs Fridays at 8/7c on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock. In the episode, Emmett admits he long knew that Bobbie's late father, Happy, had an affair and fathered a child — Bobbie's estranged half-sister, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) — but had kept the information secret because he promised his best friend.
Bobbie acknowledged Emmett's remorse and respected his loyalty, but said the betrayal hurt too much and ended their romance. Emmett asked, "Are you ending things between us?" and Bobbie replied tearfully, "I just don't have it in me to be anything more than that right now." Happy's Place co-creator and showrunner Kevin Abbott told NBC Insider he wanted the show to be realistic about relationships, joking about the breakup by saying, "Reba came to me, and she said, 'I want to be able to write Emmett out of the show if Rex is mean to me...'" Director and executive producer Pamela Fryman added, "That would be amazing if it was true." Abbott said the series aims to be compelling and rooted in hope: "We are Happy's Place, but life isn't always happy.
