People reports Kristen Pierce-Sherrod, CEO of Harold's Chicken and daughter of founder Harold Pierce, has died, her family announced in a since-deleted statement posted to Instagram on behalf of Harold's Chicken Corporate and the Chicago Children's Equestrian Center.

"On behalf of Harold's Chicken Corporate and the Chicago Children Equestrian Center, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Chief Executive Officer, Kristen D. Pierce-Sherrod," the statement read, per a CBS News report. The family wrote they were grateful for the outpouring of prayers and condolences and asked for privacy; no additional details were provided about the date or cause of her death, and funeral arrangements will be announced later. People reached out to Harold's Chicken for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

Pierce-Sherrod led the Chicago-born chain her parents started in 1950, guiding its growth into a regional brand across eight states while preserving its ties to local communities and its signature fried chicken with mild or hot sauce. Tributes and messages of condolence have poured in from customers and community members, many crediting her with maintaining the spirit and legacy of Harold's Chicken for future generations.
