Craig Mazin is teaming with HBO to adapt Baldur's Gate 3 into a series titled Baldur's Gate. Larian Studios isn't involved, and the show will pick up where the game left off. Because the game offers multiple endings with many variations, the choice of a canonical ending will strongly shape the direction of the series.

One character that deserves a place on screen is the Dark Urge. An Origin character and Bhaalspawn suffering from amnesia, the Dark Urge wrestles with an internal bloodlust tied to Bhaal, the god of murder. Players can either give in — producing an ending that kills many companions — or resist and reach a more hopeful conclusion; both paths provide rich dramatic material for television.

The Dark Urge need not be the lead. The show could be set in a version of Faerûn where a good-aligned Bhaalspawn helped save the world from the Netherbrain and later appears as an unpredictable ally.
