HBO's 'Harry Potter' Season 1 Will Show Draco Malfoy's Home Early
HBO's Harry Potter reboot will bring Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to life across eight episodes, the first instalment of a planned seven-season adaptation of the books. Draco Malfoy actor Lox Pratt, fresh from playing marooned schoolboy Jack in the new Lord of the Flies series, says the show shifts character perspectives to explore events up to six years earlier than the novels.
Pratt notes that the books—and the original films—stay closely over Harry's shoulder, but the series opens up the world. Viewers will see teachers in their private rooms and get scenes of Draco at home, including family moments and his relationship with his father, Lucius, played by Johnny Flynn.
Those domestic scenes normally appear late in the book series, yet the HBO version brings them forward to develop Draco beyond a sneering antagonist. Pratt describes moments that reveal why the character behaves as he does, offering small "glints" of his inner life.
