Henry Cavill shares first look from Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot
Published Jan. 29, 2026: Henry Cavill shared a first look from the upcoming Highlander reboot on Instagram as production has only just begun, with John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski directing. Cavill posted two photos showing a leather trench coat with a fur collar and a giant sword; he appears in two different locations across the images, suggesting substantial travel between settings in the film.
"Happy First Look for Highlander!" Cavill wrote. "This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy." Cavill has been attached to the project since 2021. Polygon reported that one reason production took longer to start was that Cavill injured himself late last year during prep.
The cinematography and costuming in the photos were noted to be reminiscent of the look of John Wick. The screenplay was written by Michael Finch, building on previous versions developed by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson. The reboot’s supporting cast includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela and Max Zhang.
The original Highlander film debuted in 1986, starring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, with Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez and Clancy Brown as the Kurgan; Lambert and Connery returned for a 1991 sequel and the property later expanded into additional films, television adaptations and spinoff novels.
