Here’s Why Some Overwatch Heroes Get More Skins Than Others
In a Kotaku report, debates over which Overwatch heroes receive the most cosmetics have grown louder with brand collaborations, with Kiriko, Mercy, and Juno often appearing while heroes like Baptiste and Lúcio are frequently left out. According to Blizzard, the issue is more complicated than which players are willing to spend.
Art director Dion Rogers said some characters are simply easier to conceptualize in different outfits and accessories: “Our team, we draw a bunch of stuff and it just works better with some heroes than others.” Rogers added that some designs “look cursed” and won’t work, and that as the team has built a better pipeline and become more efficient—“we’re nearing 50 heroes”—they expect to reach more underserved characters.
He noted Lúcio is getting some Hello Kitty/Sanrio crossover items and that “there’s even more coming for him.” Character artist Melissa Kelly said she sympathizes with players of underserved heroes as a Zarya fan.
