Kotaku reports Highguard, a new 3v3 PvP "raid shooter" released on PS5, Xbox, and PC on January 26, has accumulated a majority of negative reviews on Steam.

As of 5:10 p.m. EST, Highguard had 9,442 user reviews on Steam across all languages, with SteamDB showing 7,230 of them as negative, giving the game a "Mostly Negative" status and fewer than 2,000 positive reviews. Players reported overwhelmed servers that initially prevented play, performance problems on high-end PC hardware, and complaints that the 3v3 format and large maps make matches slow or boring. One Steam reviewer said, "The maps in this game are way too big for 3v3; the size would fit better for 5v5 or 6v6," while another wrote, "The 3v3 format on such a huge map just doesn't click for me, and the overall experience becomes chaotic without bringing anything new to the table." On the PlayStation Store the game had nearly 2,000 reviews and a 3.34 out of 5-star rating.

Not even 12 hours had passed since launch, so many reviews reflect a dozen or fewer matches. The piece notes the real question is what happens in the next few days, weeks, and months—assuming Highguard sticks around that long—and whether the developers can address the issues players have reported.
