Movieweb reports that Hijack Season 2 opens with a major twist: Episode 1, "Signal," ends by revealing that Sam Nelson is orchestrating a hostage situation on a Berlin underground train.

Season 2 picks up about 2.5 years after Sam’s actions in Season 1, when he helped save passengers during a Dubai‑to‑London plane hijacking. The episode shows odd behavior from Sam—he buys a soda and tosses it, scans commuters and confronts a young man later revealed to be an asylum seeker who may have been carrying a bomb. The train driver Otto calls someone named Marko, seems in distress, skips a station and the train becomes hijacked; Apple TV’s promotional logline, "A Berlin underground train and its commuters are taken hostage...," notably does not say Sam is trying to stop the hijacking.

By the episode’s end Sam tells Otto, "I'm hijacking this train," a turn that reframes his Season 1 persona and raises questions about what changed in the intervening 2.5 years. The show also briefly shows Sam’s ex, Marsha, in a despondent state, and viewers will have to wait as the season progresses to learn why Sam has gone from a passenger who was saved to the person carrying out a hostage crisis.
