Hilary Duff calls estrangement from sister Haylie 'lonely'

Hilary Duff said the estrangement from her sister Haylie felt "almost like when I got divorced [in 2015]," comparing the "lonely" fallout to her split from Mike Comrie, and confirmed her song "We Don't Talk" is about her older sibling. She told Rolling Stone in an interview published Thursday that she had prepared to address it publicly by including the song on her record.

Duff called the rift "the most lonely part of my life" and said she struggled with whether to share it, noting that "people have known my life since I was a child" and that being open about the theme "genuinely came from the heart." After a London concert, fans tied a mustard-colored sofa onstage to Haylie's home; Duff dismissed that theory as "absolute bullshit," saying she doesn't have time to create "threads for people to catch on to" and that the song was simply "about my truth." Her album "Luck… or Something" explores complicated family dynamics between her, Haylie and their parents Bob and Susan.
