Hilary Duff greeted by rapturous crowd at first live show in 18 years
Hilary Duff’s first live performance in 18 years was met with a sold-out crowd singing back every word of her songs.
Fans had travelled from Brazil, Saudi Arabia and across Europe and were often so loud the woman on stage was sometimes hard to hear. Duff appeared overwhelmed by the reception but showed no signs of rust, her fierce sincerity and girl-next-door charm helping to create a euphoric, escapist atmosphere.
Her 17-song set sprinkled five new numbers from the forthcoming album Luck … Or Something among fan favourites such as 2015’s Sparks and 2003’s So Yesterday. Highlights included Duff jumping on a stage sofa for Why Not, bringing three fans on stage to recreate the low-energy choreography of her 2007 single With Love (which went viral on TikTok in 2021), and a more textured vocal on songs like Fly and Come Clean; the reviewer called Someone’s Watching Over Me cloying.
The biggest noise came with the encore pairing of new single Mature and the Lizzie McGuire classic What Dreams Are Made Of, ending with pink butterfly confetti and a wild singalong. The review said the emotional finale proved Duff could easily put music at the centre of her portfolio career.
