Movieweb reports that Hit Man — the R-rated comedy thriller that was a hit for Netflix in 2024 — is now streaming on HBO Max and is currently the fourth most popular movie on the platform globally.

The film stars Glen Powell and Adria Arjona and was directed by Richard Linklater, who co-wrote the script with Powell and Skip Hollandsworth. The story is loosely based on the real life of Gary Johnson, while Adria Arjona's character Madison and her story are entirely fictitious; Powell plays a college professor who moonlights as a fake hitman for the New Orleans Police Department and becomes romantically involved with a woman who sought his services.

The critics' consensus hails the movie as a "deceptively dark thriller that's also loaded with laughs," and Hit Man holds a 95% critics score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was released May 24, 2024, runs 116 minutes, and after moving to a new streamer the piece has made a comeback two years later and is described as shooting its way up the streaming charts.
