Hockey brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes chase gold at Winter Olympics
Quinn Hughes scored the overtime winner against Sweden on February 18, sending Team USA into the men’s hockey semifinals. The 26-year-old Minnesota Wild defenseman’s goal guaranteed the U.S. a shot at a medal and set up a semifinal against Slovakia; a win would put them in the gold-medal game, a loss would send them to the bronze-medal contest.
His younger brother Jack is also on the roster, though the two skate on different lines and don’t often share the ice. Quinn entered the NHL in 2018 as the seventh overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks and was traded to the Minnesota Wild late last year. Jack followed in 2019 as the No.
1 overall pick to the New Jersey Devils, where he still plays. Both are part of an Olympic roster that includes NHL players for the first time in more than a decade. Their family has deep hockey ties. Mother Ellen Weinberg-Hughes was a three-sport athlete at the University of New Hampshire and competed internationally for the U.S.
