Hoda Kotb returns to 'Today' in emotional segment on Nancy Guthrie disappearance
Hoda Kotb returned to Studio 1A Friday to cover the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie. One year after leaving her "Today" show post, the 61-year-old said she and her former colleagues feel "helpless" amid the crisis, adding, "Were all so close with her and we all want to help her." She also recalled how Savannah supported her during daughter Hope’s hospitalization in 2023.
Kotb pointed to specific examples of that support: "who was first in the hospital when Hope was sick? Savannah," she said, noting Savannah hopped on a plane for Carson Daly’s parents, sat by Sheinelle Jones’ late husband during his cancer battle, and helped Craig Melvin when his brother passed.
Kotb stressed that Savannah "was [always] there" for the "Today" show family and said she can be "patient with prayers." Melvin echoed Kotb's "feeling of helplessness," but insisted, "We're not helpless because it's prayer and hope. Prayer and hope.
