Horizon Zero Dawn 3 may be years away as Guerrilla prioritizes multiplayer
Guerrilla Games last week revealed Horizon Hunters Gathering, a tactical co-op action game that “looks like someone repainted the Horizon universe with a Fortnite brush.” Many at the Dutch studio are said to be working on that multiplayer project now, and several staff who had been on Horizon Zero Dawn 3 were reportedly reassigned to support it as Sony pushes the new title as a live service.
That shift means the next mainline Aloy adventure is not imminent. One person familiar with the franchise suggested fans might not see Horizon Zero Dawn 3 for three to five years, which would put it in the PlayStation 6 generation, though it could still appear on PS5 as a cross‑gen release.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has reached a similar conclusion about Guerrilla’s current priorities. The studio has publicly expressed confidence in its leadership “as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project,” a message issued amid an executive reshuffle in 2023.
